Around the Horn: Extra Innings for September 19

Tuesday we had two Stocks to Watch and three Around the Horn subscription trades on our radar. On this big Fed announcement day of this Jewish holiday week at the end of the third quarter, volatility was high. One trade hit for profits, two for a scratch and two were no-shows.

Health Care Property Investors Inc (HCP) was a Backdoor Slider long for Tuesday’s Around the Horn subscription service trade list. Though HCP had been drifting higher for much of the day after a gap-down open, the entry was after the FOMC announcement. HCP hesitated at the entry level for a half hour or so before rocketing into the close. Exit was end of day.

Monday’s Wrap:

Monday we had two Stocks to Watch only, with one trade hitting for profits and one not.

Waters Corp (WAT) was a Sinker short for Monday’s Stocks to Watch list. Entry was in the morning on a breakdown of Friday’s high. The decline was swift, with an exit off the lows on the reversal of two closes and cross of the 8 period simple moving average.

Friday’s Wrap:

Friday we had two Stocks to Watch, one Extra Inning and one Around the Horn subscription trade on our radar. One trade hit for profits, one for a loss, and two were scratches.

Sunoco Inc (SUN) was an Extra Inning long for Friday’s session. SUN hit the entry price twice with fair to modest gains both times.

United Rentals Inc (URI) was a Fastball short for Friday’s Around the Horn subscription service trade list. URI looked good off the open, but shortly after the open turned around and drove straight to the stop loss. Second entry later in the day resulted in a scratch end of day.

Wednesday we’ll be watching for weakness in Varian Medical Systems Inc (VAR) and possible continued strength in Health Care Property Investors Inc (HCP)
