Around the Horn: Extra Innings for December 7

Thursday, December 6, we had two Stocks to Watch and two Around the Horn subscription trades on our radar. Of these, three were profitable and one was a no-show.

Freeport Mcmoran (FCX) was a Line Drive long for Thursday’s Around the Horn subscription trade list. FCX was gapped up in the morning, and this one was like catching the tiger by the tail. If you could grab on early, it was great. If not, some traders used intraday discretion to enter on the breakout of consolidation to achieve profits. Exit was anytime at or after the initial profit target, or at the first sign of hesitation at the reversal of highs.

LDK Solar Co Ltd (LDK) was an Infield Fly short for Thursday’s Stocks to Watch trade list. LDK hit our entry an hour or so into the session and traded quickly to lows. Exit was on a break of downside momentum on the reversal of two closes.

Cooper Industries Inc (CBE) was a Line Drive long for Thursday’s Stocks to Watch trade list. CBE hit our entry mid-morning only to drift and pull in some. Depending on your stop loss, a trader could either have taken a loss and re-entered later in the day, or kept the stop wider and was already in for the big afternoon move. Either way, exit was end of day.

Extra Innings and Opportunities for Friday, December 7, 2007:

Consol Energy (CNX) was a Sinker setup for Thursday’s trading that continued to push higher. If market conditions are conducive, I will be watching tomorrow to see if CNX can push even higher and then fail, triggering a short. Key words: market conditions.
