Around the Horn: Extra Innings for July 12

Wednesday, we had two Stocks to Watch, one extra innings and three Around the Horn subscription service trade on our radar. Of these, one hit for profits, one hit for a loss, one gapped past our price but had intraday-play opportunities and three were no-shows.

McGraw-Hill Companies (MHP) was a Fastball short setup for Wednesday’s Around the Horn subscription service. MHP gapped open lower, but traded higher in the first five minutes with a high of 63.97 before trading back lower. Our rule on gaps precluded us from entering at the opening price, but intraday-play trading opportunities existed from S1 to below the S2 pivot level.

Federal National Mortgage (FNM) was a Fastball short setup for Wednesday’s Around the Horn subscription service. FNM tagged our entry price the first time shortly after the open. As it did not trade more than 10 cents in our direction before reversing, our rule is to exit the trade 10 cents to the other side of the entry level. The second time FNM tagged our entry, it did trade more than 10 cents in our direction and the trade went to the stop loss with little hesitation.

Raytheon Co (RTN) was a Fastball Short setup for Wednesday’s Stocks to Watch column. RTN hit the entry level off the open and quickly traded lower. Exit was below the S1 level.
