Around the Horn: Extra Innings for July 19
Wednesday, we had four Stocks to Watch, two extra innings and five Around the Horn subscription service trade on our radar. Of these, three hit for profits, a whopping six were gapped either against or beyond our price, one was a straight-up no-show and one was a scratch trade.
Goodrich Corp (GR) was a Sinker short setup for Wednesday’s Around the Horn subscription service. With the market gapping down as a whole on the open, GR did not trigger our classic Sinker entry by testing yesterday’s high. I do watch these non-triggered Sinkers for intraday plays, however, and GR did not disappoint. A Breaking Ball intraday pattern set up just under the Central Pivot. Entry on a break from this level was good down to S1, with an exit at this level pretty much anytime that afternoon.
Goodrich Corp
Georgia Gulf Corp (GGC) was an Infield Fly short setup from Wednesday’s Stocks to Watch column. Entry was off of the open. For a Twenty dollar stock, there was a lot of erratic movement in the first half hour, so when GGC kissed the S2 level, it was time to look for the door. Exit was on the bounce up from this level, certainly at the cross of the 8 period simple moving average, if not before.
Georgia Gulf Corp
Sunoco Inc (SUN) was a Fastball short setup from Wednesday’s Stocks to Watch column. Entry was mid-morning after trading down, then back up and down again through our price. You had to be fast with this one and grab the profits while you could. SUN was very volatile and an exit below 79.20 was possible if you were quick on the draw. Worst case scenario, SUN resulted in minor profits or small scratch.
