Around the Horn: Extra Innings for July 27

Thursday we had two Stocks to Watch, one Extra Inning and two Around the Horn subscription service trades on our radar. Of these, four hit for profits and one was a no-show.

Advance Auto Parts Inc (AAP) was a Fastball short setup for Thursday’s Around the Horn subscription service. AAP gapped down off the open, but traded back up to our entry level. Entry was on the drop back through our entry price and AAP was a beauty until end of day, surpassing our initial profit target and continuing on another point and a half.

Sysco Corp (SYY) was a Backdoor Slider short setup for Thursday’s Around the Horn subscription service. SYY gapped down to our entry level and languished most of the day before finally trading down to our profit target end of day, with an exit at this level.

Everest Re Group (RE) was a Backdoor Slider short setup for Thursday’s Nightly Wrap & Extra Innings column. RE gapped down to its R2 level, briefly trading lower than higher than this level over the course of the morning. An intraday play opportunity presented itself on the break down from this level and was good through mid-afternoon, with an exit during this period or on a break up from this trading range later in the day.

Sempra Energy (SRE) was an Extra Inning short setup for Thursday’s Nightly Wrap & Extra Innings column. Like most everything we watched, SRE also gapped down this morning, and that had me watching for intraday play opportunities. Opportunity knocked on the break down from a consolidation at S2 and was good until noon or so. Exit was on a break up from this level, crossing the 8 period simple moving average. I blogged about this one earlier today so be sure to visit us and share your thoughts at www.TradingBullpen.com.
