Around the Horn: Extra Innings for September 14
Thursday we had three Stocks to Watch, two Extra Innings and three Around the Horn subscription trades on our radar. Of these, two hit for profits, two for a scratch and four were no-shows.
International Rectifier Corp (IRF) was a Fastball short for Thursday’s Around the Horn subscription service trade list. Entry was shortly after the open. IRF made a sharp decline toward the profit target, coming within 10 cents, before pulling back. When a stock reaches this level, we move the stop up to the 50% to target level, and thus took a profit. Another option is to peel of some shares at this level, with a breakeven stop for the balance. In this case, exit for the balance would have been at the initial profit target mid-day.

Brinker International Inc (EAT) was a Fastball short for Thursday’s Around the Horn subscription service trade list. Entry was off the open and EAT traded swiftly to the 50% to target level. Here we move our protective stop to breakeven, and are glad we exit just above the entry level as EAT moved higher on the day.

AK Steel Holding Corp (AKS) was a Switch Hitter long for Thursday’s Stocks to Watch list. Entry was in the morning on a breakout above resistance, climbing nearly a point before signaling an exit mid-day on the cross of the 8 period simple moving average.

On Wednesday, Adrian wrote in the Stocks to Watch column that Sunoco (SUN) would be a long candidate over the next few sessions. SUN moved higher today and we’ll watch tomorrow to see if it tries for recent highs.
